Kalfrisa, committed to sustainability, participates in various initiatives to promote a greener and more efficient future.
In this context, at Kalfrisa, together with the R&D department, we are participating in the LIFE program under the Circular Economy and Quality of Life subprogram with the ABATE project, where high-performance technologies are applied to reduce VOCs in waste treatment plants.
At Kalfrisa, we carry out detailed engineering for two demo sites, located at Ecoparc 3 in Sant Adrià del Besòs, Barcelona, and Las Dehesas in Madrid. We are responsible for implementing the first VOC purification element using technology based on adsorption/desorption processes (Zeolitic matrix rotoconcentrator), which will transform large-volume streams with low VOC concentrations (20,000 Nm³/h) into a highly concentrated VOC stream (2,000 Nm³/h) along with a clean air stream free of VOCs (18,000 Nm³/h).
The expected benefits include significant improvements in the operating costs of both demo sites: a VOC removal efficiency of 90–95% is anticipated, along with a 90% reduction in natural gas and thermal energy consumption, and a 90% decrease in CO₂ emissions.
Additionally, a reduction in both operating and capital costs for air and gas treatment is expected.
This project is aligned with the objectives set out in the Circular Economy PERTE, developing sustainable solutions that contribute to environmental protection and strengthen Kalfrisa’s role in the transition toward a more responsible and regenerative economy.
